Budapest\u2019s brunch scene is no longer worth exploring solely for classic egg-based breakfasts. Tucked away in one of the quieter corners of Veres P\u00e1ln\u00e9 Street, Sirap Brunch & More<\/a><\/strong> is particularly charming because it adds a distinctive, playful world to the familiar brunch experience. The Parisian-style interior filled with tiny details, the eye-catching dishes and, above all, the unique bear-themed drinks come together to create a place that is just as enjoyable to look around and linger in as it is to eat at. <\/p>\n\n

Opened in December 2024, Sirap is a family-run business created by Vir\u00e1g Bettenbuch, Edit Fodor and Zolt\u00e1n Szab\u00f3, and that personal touch can be felt throughout the atmosphere. The parents prepare the food in the kitchen, while Vir\u00e1g welcomes guests and prepares the drinks, often helping out in the kitchen as well. Gastronomy has always played an important role in the family\u2019s life, and Sirap has become their own little Budapest expression of this shared passion. They are constantly looking for new ideas, keeping up with the latest trends and adding new creations to the menu from time to time.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

A Little Parisian Gem on Veres P\u00e1ln\u00e9 Street<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The origin of Sirap\u2019s name only becomes truly clear once we step inside. Alongside the name\u2019s reference to Paris, numerous small details throughout the interior evoke the atmosphere of the French capital<\/strong>. The distinctive chairs, the decorations on the walls and even the architectural silhouette hidden in the logo all point in the same direction. The overall effect really does feel like stepping into a tiny, carefully decorated jewellery box. <\/p>\n\n

One of Sirap\u2019s greatest strengths is precisely this attention to detail. There is seating downstairs next to the huge glass windows, as well as a more intimate space upstairs, while the terrace overlooking the quiet street is another lovely choice for a coffee or a longer brunch. The atmosphere is both charming and refined, while the friendly service adds to the feeling that guests are genuinely welcomed here. <\/p>\n\n

The kitchen\u2019s offering is built around familiar brunch favourites, but Sirap also likes to step outside the usual from time to time. Alongside fried eggs, scrambled eggs and eggs benedict, the egg dishes also include Turkish eggs<\/strong>, served with dill yoghurt, poached eggs, cayenne pepper oil and toast. The dish already looks particularly appealing when it arrives at the table, with the colours and textures of the different elements coming together beautifully. The poached eggs, creamy dill yoghurt and toast create the kind of comforting yet exciting combination we look for in a brunch classic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flavours came together in a pleasant harmony, while the cayenne pepper oil added just enough spice to lift the creamier elements without becoming too intense or overpowering. Using labneh instead of yoghurt could perhaps give the dish an even fuller, slightly deeper character, but even as it is, this is a dish that can easily hold its own as the centrepiece of a leisurely brunch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the bread-based breakfasts, the menu also features fried toast made from a homemade recipe, as well as French toast and avocado toast<\/strong>, making it easy for fans of more classic flavours to find their favourite. At Sirap, the avocado toast comes with mozzarella pearls, tomatoes and a fried egg, turning the familiar combination into a slightly more substantial dish that feels perfectly suited to brunch. They certainly don\u2019t skimp on the avocado here, with the toast arriving generously loaded and giving the impression of a hearty breakfast at first glance. The fresh tomatoes and mozzarella pearls complement the creamy base beautifully, while the fried egg makes the dish not only more filling but also more enjoyable as a whole. If you\u2019re looking for a lighter yet still satisfying way to start the day, it\u2019s hard to go wrong with this plate. <\/p>\n\n

Among the full breakfast options<\/strong>, there is also a speciality that we haven\u2019t come across at many Budapest brunch spots so far: the Bavarian breakfast<\/strong>. At the centre of the plate is a Bavarian sausage, accompanied by sauerkraut, bacon and house-made mustard. The combination is more distinctive and considerably more filling than the classic breakfast options, making it a great choice for those who probably won\u2019t be looking for a separate lunch after brunch. We particularly enjoy seeing slightly more unusual dishes like this on a menu, as alongside the familiar brunch classics, they are what really give a place its own character. <\/p>\n\n

Several additional toppings can be added to the dishes, while gluten-free bread is also available<\/strong>, making it easy to customise your breakfast to suit your own preferences.<\/p>\n\n

If you\u2019re in the mood for something sweet, Sirap\u2019s pancakes<\/strong> deserve a chapter of their own. Alongside the chocolate banana, white chocolate blueberry and raspberry pistachio versions<\/strong>, the presentation alone is worth taking a moment to appreciate. The sauce is placed inside a separate metal frame, which is then lifted to let it cascade over the pancakes right in front of the guest. It\u2019s a simple idea, but that\u2019s exactly what makes the whole experience feel a little more playful and memorable. <\/p>\n\n

We went for the raspberry pistachio version, and it was particularly impressive. The raspberry doesn\u2019t just appear as a topping but is also incorporated into the batter, while the pistachio beautifully complements the fruity character. It\u2019s a generous, sweet breakfast that works just as well for anyone craving something more dessert-like instead of a savoury brunch dish. Given its size and generous toppings, it can easily be shared between two people, making it a great way to finish a brunch together or enjoy as dessert after a more substantial breakfast. <\/p>\n\n

Alongside the classic pancakes, the menu also features sushi pancakes<\/strong> in combinations such as Nutella banana, white chocolate strawberry, raspberry pistachio and Biscoff banana. And if you\u2019re looking to try something completely different, there\u2019s panketti, essentially spaghetti made from pancake batter,<\/strong> served with seasonal fruit, chocolate and raspberry sauce. The sweet French toast with citrus vanilla sauce and raspberry gel is another exciting alternative, while the yoghurt granola served with homemade forest fruit gel and seasonal fruit offers a lighter option. <\/p>\n\n

If we\u2019re not coming for a full brunch but simply looking for something sweet to enjoy with an afternoon coffee, it\u2019s still worth taking a look at the counter. At Sirap, you can choose from several homemade cakes and cookies<\/strong>, with favourites such as Biscoff, Nutella and Twix cookies regularly making an appearance.<\/p>\n\n

What makes the cookies special, however, goes beyond their flavours. They are freshly made on site and decorated by Edit herself, making each one feel a little more personal than your average counter-top treat. We tried the Kinder Bueno version, where the rich, creamy flavour of the homemade caramel sauce really stood out. It\u2019s exactly the kind of little sweet treat that makes it easy to say you\u2019ll just have one cookie, only to find yourself staying a little longer. <\/p>\n\n

Sirap\u2019s True Signatures: The Bear-Themed Drinks<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

If we had to highlight one thing that makes Sirap\u2019s visual identity particularly memorable, it would probably be the bear-themed drinks. Different drinks come with homemade chocolate or ice cubes shaped like little bears<\/strong>, which don\u2019t just work as decoration but also add to the flavour of the drink.<\/p>\n\n

The coffee menu goes well beyond espresso and lattes, too. The salted caramel cold foam iced coffee, ube cold foam iced coffee and ruby chocolate cold foam iced coffee each have their own distinct character, while the chocolate bears served alongside them add another layer to Sirap\u2019s eye-catching concept. <\/p>\n\n

One of the best parts, however, is when we get to put the drink together ourselves<\/strong>. We can pour the milk and espresso over the bear-shaped ice, making the preparation not only more visually appealing but also adding a playful element to the coffee experience. It\u2019s this kind of detail that makes Sirap\u2019s drinks more than just something that looks good in photos: they genuinely become part of the experience. <\/p>\n\n
