There are few brunch dishes that have quietly yet inescapably become part of Budapest’s breakfast culture like avocado toast. It’s built on simple principles, yet infinitely versatile, and that’s exactly why it’s become a staple of the city’s brunch scene. Crispy sourdough bread, creamy avocado, a few well-chosen additions, and you’ve got a dish that’s both comforting, trendy, and spectacular.
While it’s not technically the most complex brunch dish, many Budapest breakfast spots have given avocado toast its own twist. Some freshen it up with seasonal veggies, others deepen it with fermented ingredients, or take it to the next level with eggs, cheese, and specialty sauces. We’ve been keeping a close eye on where and how this classic is popping up around the city, and we’ve put together a selection that we think represents the most exciting pieces of Budapest’s avocado toast palette.
Villa Bagatelle

Located in one of the most beautiful villas in the 12th district, Villa Bagatelle is a brunch pilgrimage site in itself, but the avocado toast here is in a league of its own. It comes on homemade rye bread, topped with a turmeric egg, a seasonal salad refreshed with citrus dressing, and tender green peas. The entire dish is light yet layered, fresh yet deep. The bread comes from the Brót bakery on the ground floor of the house, which is a guarantee of quality in itself. This is the kind of toast that transcends category and would easily make it onto any international brunch list.
LuLu Budapest
Drawing inspiration from the sunny islands of the southern seas, LuLu brings the light, liberated flavors of tropical paradise to Széna Square. Toasts play a particularly strong role in LuLu Budapest’s menu, with every dish based on quality ingredients and fresh, clean flavors. The plates are always accompanied by fresh salad, marinated vegetables and green pea hummus, which in itself shows how important balance and attention to detail are here. The basic avocado toast comes in a vegan version, with homemade avocado cream, fresh avocado slices and cherry tomatoes, in a clean and comfortable form. Those who want a little more of an experience can go in several directions. It can also be ordered with poached eggs, smoked salmon or burrata, and the version with pink hollandaise sauce is especially reminiscent of LuLu’s playful, colorful world. For us, the burrata version was clearly the winner, where the creamy, soft texture of the burrata blends in perfect harmony with the freshness of the avocado.

Horizont Café
Located near Erzsébet körút, Horizont Café has been transformed from a former cinema space into a modern brunch spot. The Avo toast here comes with poached eggs, fresh avocado cream and sourdough bread, complemented by pink aioli and marinated vegetables. The play of textures works particularly well, the presentation is clean yet inviting. A dish that doesn’t ask for too much, yet knows exactly what to make it memorable.

STIKA Budapest

One of the unmissable spots in Budapest’s brunch culture is STIKA, located on Dob Street, which has been a defining figure on the gastronomic map of the Jewish Quarter since 2014. The place has been building on creative yet lovable dishes since the beginning, and this is no different in the case of avocado toast. The avocado toast here is also based on sourdough bread, on which creamy mashed avocado, ricotta, marinated red onion and egg are added, and it is accompanied by a fresh, mixed salad. The overall effect is both comfortable and exciting, every element knows its exact place on the plate. STIKA’s dishes are generally characterized by a bold yet sophisticated approach. The dishes are also visually strong, each plate is a small gastronomic experience, where flavors and textures consciously build on each other.

Tapas Fino
Tapas Fino brings the Spanish brunch atmosphere to the Belgrade Quay, where the proximity of the Danube, the Budapest panorama and the Mediterranean lifestyle form a natural unity. The brunch philosophy of the place consciously deviates from the classic, one-plate approach. Here, the small, carefully composed dishes encourage everyone around the table to taste and share the plates. The brunch menu also includes avocado toast, which fits the tapas approach in a trendy yet comfortable form. The freshness of the creamy avocado is offset by the refreshingly crunchy quinoa, while the well-textured, freshly toasted bread provides a stable base for the dish. This dish in itself is not a classic, filling brunch dish, but in the Tapas Fino concept, it is precisely this lightness that works. The avocado toast here is more of a tasty, well-chosen appetizer that fits nicely among the other plates intended for sharing.

Free – Gluten Free Bakery Pest
Free Bakery also makes the avocado toast experience possible for those who eat gluten-free. Sourdough gluten-free bread, creamy avocado, lactose-free mozzarella and fresh salad are served on the plate. One of its greatest virtues is that it doesn’t feel like a compromise in taste or texture. If we didn’t know it was gluten-free, it wouldn’t even be noticeable.

ZILEAT Brunch & Bistro
Zileat interprets breakfast as a creative playground. Avocado toast here is topped with beetroot cream cheese, panko-crusted egg, feta and sautéed onions, served on sourdough bread. The creamy and crunchy elements are in perfect balance, with every bite feeling the conscious construction and bold use of flavor.

Blueberry Brunch
Blueberry Brunch offers a modern take on breakfast in the Basilica area. The avocado toast comes with sun-dried tomatoes, bell pepper, red onion and cilantro salsa, and fresh avocado slices. The presentation is photogenic, the flavors are fresh and well-layered, and it’s exactly what makes avocado toast so popular.
