In the heart of downtown Budapest, where Veres Pálné and Irányi Street meet, there’s a place many of us already know and love. Scruton V.P. is more than just a café or restaurant, it’s a community hub where every shade of urban life finds its rhythm. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingles with the quiet presence of books, while cozy corners and spacious tables alike invite you to settle in for an afternoon of work, a spontaneous meetup, or a long, unhurried conversation. It’s no surprise that over the years, this spot has become a true favorite among the city’s locals.

At Scruton V.P., gastronomy has always been at the heart of everything, and with autumn’s arrival, the menu has once again been refreshed to match the season’s mood. This time of year is all about slower mornings, comforting flavors, and hearty dinners, and Scruton has perfectly captured that feeling in every plate and glass they serve.
Long mornings, brunch moments, and specialty coffees
One of Scruton’s greatest strengths lies in its effortless ability to adapt to every rhythm of the day. Early risers can start their morning with a cup of Röast Coffee and a classic egg dish, served in a calm yet inspiring setting. The breakfast menu strikes a perfect balance between comfort and creativity. The avocado toast arrives with tahini and soft-boiled egg, a familiar favorite taken to a richer, creamier level. Even the English muffin surprises, topped with fried egg, pesto rosso, and grana padano instead of the usual pairings. And of course, sweet indulgences also have their place here — from chocolate-drizzled banana american pancakes that never go out of style to the Nutella-blueberry brioche topped with pistachio and marshmallows, turning every bite into a playful little treat.

The breakfasts are perfectly complemented by specialty coffee sourced from the Impresso team. In the heart of the bustling city, it feels good to know that the coffee in your cup comes from a local Budapest roastery, freshly roasted and carefully prepared. It’s one of those small yet meaningful details that make every moment at Scruton feel a little more personal, a little more intimate.
Scruton V.P. Autumn Main Courses

Autumn always brings something special to the table. At Scruton’s kitchen, seasonality is not just a buzzword but a genuine philosophy. The current menu is full of dishes that capture both the comforting warmth of home-cooked meals and the fresh, modern touch of a contemporary bistro.
Guests arriving in a group can immediately dive into the sharing plate designed for sharing. The platter features red lentil hummus, feta cream, strips of tender beef, and crispy fried chicken strips, accompanied by a potato lángos. The experience truly comes alive when enjoyed together, as each bite offers something different, turning the meal into a genuine social occasion.

Among the main courses, the tender duck leg served with pumpkin purée stands out as a highlight of autumn cuisine, perfectly balancing sweet and savory flavors. The veal neck with creamy sauce and steamed bread represents one of the best examples of classic comfort food, while the roasted pork belly with sauerkraut and beluga lentils leans more into a playful experiment, boldly yet delicately navigating the line between tradition and modern gastronomy.
Desserts that capture the very essence of autumn
For those curious about Scruton’s creative side, starting or ending a meal with their desserts is always a good idea. This season’s selection features several special treats that are almost impossible to resist. Just the thought of the fig, pumpkin seed, and white chocolate slice trio already sounds exciting, while the pear, vanilla, and hazelnut dessert adds another layer to autumn’s flavor palette. We weren’t able to try these on this visit, which only gives us another reason to return as soon as possible.

The pumpkin cheesecake stood out, served as a monodessert that immediately captivates with its elegant presentation and rich flavor. The Scruton apple dessert is clearly this season’s star, a harmonious combination of cinnamon white chocolate mousse, creamy apple compote, and hazelnut praline sponge that impresses not only on the plate but also demands its place on your Instagram feed.
Those looking for lighter treats can choose from a selection of allergen-friendly desserts. In addition, there are cookies and macarons, offering the perfect pairing for a coffee break or a quick stop.
Hot drinks for crisp autumn mornings and cocktails for cozy, atmospheric evenings
The Scruton V.P. drink menu also brings seasonal surprises. Hot chocolates can be chosen from three bases and customized with a variety of toppings, making them perfect for a chilly afternoon. A standout favorite is the spiced plum matcha latte, where the house-made plum syrup beautifully complements the bold matcha flavor. Other seasonal highlights include tiramisu latte, apple pie chai, and chocolate cheesecake americano.

For evenings and friendly gatherings, classic cocktails set the mood. Think Aperol spritz, negroni, margarita, or whiskey sour, alongside Scruton’s own signature creations, so there is always a good reason to raise a glass.
For a truly unique drink, we highly recommend the Lady Marmalade, crafted with Fenegyerek apricot pálinka, apricot jam, lemon, honey, and unfiltered apple juice, all topped with a delicate Fee foam.

Why it’s worth choosing Scruton V.P.
Scruton V.P. is an experience where you can escape the city bustle while still being right in its heart. A morning coffee among books, a sharing plate with friends, a seasonal dessert that becomes a lasting memory, or a hot chocolate on the terrace while autumn slowly paints the city in warm colors.

With its new menu, Scruton V.P. once again proves it can keep pace with the tastes of the city crowd while staying true to the cozy, welcoming, yet elegant atmosphere that so many love. In autumn, it feels even more like there is no better spot in the city center to spend a slower, more indulgent day.
