Attila, who was born in 1968, spent his childhood on a farm, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for fresh, locally sourced ingredients. After years of honing their hospitality skills at various events and fairs, Attila and Erzsébet opened Nagy Fa-Tál Konyhája a decade ago. Their dedication and passion culminated in the opening of Hungarian Hell’s Kitchen in the summer of 2014, bringing authentic Hungarian flavors to the bustling city of Budapest.

The interior of the restaurant was designed with Hungarian motifs, warm lights and wood textures, which guarantee a perfect dining experience. Characteristic Hungarian objects and motifs can be found in many details of this interior: for example, the Kalocsa pattern on the wall, the checkered tablecloths, many elements of the open kitchen, and even the Erős Pistas hiding in the background. The large terrace and spacious interior provide guests with a comfortable and inviting environment. However, what really stands out is the warm hospitality and careful attention of the staff, which was clearly visible not only on our own skin, but also on the guests sitting in the background.

During our visit, we tried the Juhbeles Hungarian fried sausage with fried egg, which was captivated by the harmonizing flavors of the simple ingredients. From their permanent menu, we also tried the duck liver aged in Tokaj wine, with homemade toasted bread. Overall, we’re not fans of the liver, but the flavor combination was interesting and turned out to be an excellent choice. The brioche bread, the soft liver pate and the Tokaj blackcurrant onion jam brought a flavor that truly represents Hungary’s diverse cuisine and we can confidently recommend it to those who are also hesitant about liver.
In order to get an insight into the flavors of the main dishes, a lecsó (homemade vegetable stew, with soft sausage) was also served on the table, which was a plate made of greens left to crisp nicely, with lecsó sausage.
Warm appetizers that stand their ground on their own
As cheese lovers, we were delighted to taste the cheese dishes of Hungarian Hell’s Kitchen Restaurant. Grilled cheese made from Hungarian artisanal cheese served with a salad was a light and excellent brunch. It was equally impressive as the Camembert fried in a walnut coat, with potato roundel. The walnut harmonizes perfectly with the soft Camembert cheese, and the potato pie smooths out the flavors, while the cranberry jam adds a sweet note to the cheese. This compilation has definitely become one of our favorites!
Desserts of Hungarian Hell’s Kitchen
We like to end our meals with sweet flavors, so we also tried the granola and waffles available in the breakfast menu. Granola served with Greek yogurt is a lighter genre, but the fresh and dried fruits and larger oil seeds in it can still serve as a complete breakfast. In the case of waffles, you can request many versions, be it banana with nutella, vanilla ice cream with honey or different jam options. For us, the finisher was the strawberry cream, which was not overly sweet, so it was perfect.
